Le Nozze di Figaro

The opera was fantastic! It was modern and yet held the libretto beautifully. This mix of old culture and a fresh look is something I have enjoyed throughout the museums and now in a opera. Their use of sets to convey the changing of seasons was very artfully done down to the snow falling in winter and movable set pieces were very playfully incorporated to create the element of hidden people on stage in a locker or box. This was my first opera and it was amazing how easy it was to follow along with the action even without knowing what exactly they were saying, their facial expressions and acting in general was phenomenal. It was good that I read the Libretto before seeing this as it gave me a grounding as to the subject and intricacies of the opera. This was such a treat and I couldn't help but look around the opera house and wonder about all the great performances that had come before this one. The older buildings in this city are truly packed with history and show it in the feeling that a certain building holds and the stories that can be told about it.
I should get some sleep we just returned from trying apple strudel at a pub. It was a nice atmosphere and it is fun to interact with the various crowds around the city. This group was very hip and rock and roll, a bit more high energy than we've seen so far. Tomorrow we leave for 2 days and 1 night in Budapest!!! I'm so excited.
